Our Story

The Northern Michigan Hickory Golf Association is provides a platform for golf enthusiasts interested in playing with pre-1935 clubs. Our mission is to preserve the spirit and traditions of the Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen era, offering a unique experience reminiscent of the roaring 1920s. Through our website, we aim to facilitate access to events, membership details, and resources for all hickory golf aficionados.

Our overriding goal is to enjoy the game we all love, have some fun enjoying life as Sir Walter did right here in Northern Michigan.

The Haig Open

HAIG OPEN LOGO.png

The Haig Open is a fun focused golf tournament in beautiful northern Michigan.  All skill levels and ages welcome.  Period attire encouraged. The event will celebrate the spirit of Walter Hagen who lived in the Traverse City area for the last 15 years of his life

​​​When:  September 6, 2025

Where: Interlochen Golf Course (Interlochen, MI)

What: 18 hole medal play, net and gross scoring

Divisions:  Open, Senior (60+), Statesman (70+), Ladies

Entry Fee: $85 which includes:

  • 18 holes with cart

  • Tee gift

  • Warm Up Range Balls

  • Champagne toast to Walter Hagen

  • Lunch post round

 

Trophies: 1st place gross in all 4 divisions

Optional Activities (fees additional):

​

  • Practice Round September 5th

  • 9 hole round at Elk Rapids Golf Club (Donald Ross Design) on September 7th
